Pregnancy is a very important stage in a women's life. Expectant mother has to take extra care for herself. Pregnancy is a time of great stress as expectant mother needs to be both mentally and physically fit. In pregnancy stage the expectant mother faces mood swings and changes in hormones; yoga helps to be in accord with mind, body and soul.Yoga helps to maintain physical strength as well as emotional and mental harmony.

Practising yoga in pregnancy benefits a lot in terms that it ensures a smooth child birth, it creates awareness of the bodily need and changes in pregnant women, improves mental and physical health of the foetus, it helps in maintaining proper energy flow and energy balance, yoga helps in developing a more conscious contact with the baby and the biggest benefit is that it helps in maintaining the shape of the body i.e. without putting on excessive weight during pregnancy.

The gentle movements and breathing exercises of yoga helps in reducing stress during pregnancy while performing different postures, breathing techniques, meditation. It not only provides a support system in prenatal stages of pregnancy but it proves equally necessary after delivery too.

While performing yoga asana and postures it reduces the pain and fatigue caused in pregnancy and it also helps in blood circulation.

An expectant mother should join in a prenatal or postnatal yoga classes or can attend occasional classes at a yoga studio. There different types of yoga such as Hatha yoga, the Kundalini Yoga, Ivengar yoga and Asthanga Yoga an expectant mother should perform under the guidance of a yoga instructor as the instructor or yoga teacher can only tell and guide which type of yoga to be performed in pregnancy. One should not overstress while performing the yoga exercises, one should start slowly. It is always advisable to perform the yoga postures under the guidance of a yoga teacher.

A yoga technique helps a mother to overcome sleep deprivation and other situations created by a newborn baby. Yoga helps one to be in shape too.

Pregnancy and child birth cause shape shifting but with performing yoga asana n postures one can maintain figure, as yoga exercises strengthens the body. Yoga exercises helps to be better acquainted with one's body. Performing regular yoga asana and yoga postures helps to focus on different areas of one's body.

Practising yoga daily not only helps in maintaing good figure but it helps in increasing strength and flexibility throughout body as whole. But one should perform exercises under the guidance of a yoga instructor/teacher.
